Table of Contents (pdf)

The first volume in the new series entitled LAPASEC (Landau Paris Studies on the Eighteenth Century), this collection contains essays on representation and performance, two key terms in the critical debates centering on the age of Enlightenment. The contributions are by established and younger scholars from North America, Europe, and Australia. Providing both an international and interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of specialist approaches in such fields as art history, literary criticism, history, philosophy, drama and musicology, LAPASEC puts the focus on aesthetics and ideologies rather than topical subjects. The volumes are based on international conferences alternating between Paris and Landau and organized by Frédéric Ogée and Peter Wagner. The essays in the present volume were selected as the best contributions to the Landau symposia in 2003 and 2005. Volume 2 will present papers from the meetings in Paris on ruins (2004) and the sketch (2006).
