Course Description:
This
is the obligatory
introduction to teaching English as a foreign language
(Einführung). It deals
with selected basic topics and current issues such as skills, working
with
texts, learner strategies, teaching grammar, task based teaching and
assessment. A reader containing all
the texts for classroom work is to be downloaded from the intranet.
All students are recommended to have a copy of Dieter
Mindt, Unterrichtsplanung
English für die Sekundarstufe I (2nd edition, on reserve in
the
university library), and one of the basic TEFL textbooks:
• Bausch,
Karl-Richard et al., eds. Handbuch Fremdsprachenunterricht.
1989. Tübingen: Francke, 2003, 4th ed. (expensive and bulky,
however, absolutely indispensable—consult the edition available at your
library)

Description:
This course will
focus
on the potentials of two traditional oral and literary narrative
genres, the
fable and the folk or fairy tale, for language and cultural learning in
the EFL
classroom. We will be looking at examples from Britain
and America and
beyond to
Africa, India
etc. and also consider other "simple forms" like riddle, joke and
proverb. All participants will be required to give oral reports on
texts and
concepts, either individually or in groups. A reader will be provided

Englischunterricht? In welcher Relation stehen ihre Konzeption und ihr
Aufbau
zu Lerntheorien bzw. zu aktuellen Paradigmen in der Fachdidaktik?
Welches sind
sinnvolle Kriterien für ihre Evaluierung? Dieses Seminar ist ein
Forum für (ansatzweise)
Antworten auf solche Fragen. Die Studierenden sollen in speziell
dafür
vorgesehenen Sitzungen bestimmte Lehrwerk-Units vorstellen und diese im
Hinblick auf o.g. Fragen ansatzweise einordnen, bewerten und
diskutieren
(Referate). Texte und Material werden zu Veranstaltungsbeginn zur
Verfügung
gestellt. Für einen (Haupt)Seminarschein ist eine
wissenschaftliche Hausarbeit
anzufertigen.
