Course Description:
This
course is designed for all future IFA-English teachers who, having
completed the test, have been placed in the grammar level B course. The
course builds on the grammar content of the A course. The backbone of
the course is a comprehensive revision of all tenses, with a special
focus on the tenses used more frequently in primary schools, however
other areas of difficulty such as prepositions, conditional sentences,
indirect speech as well as infinitive and gerund constructions are also
covered. During the lessons, emphasis is on communicative practice, so
active participation in class is a prerequisite. The course is
accompanied by a programme of independent home study based on the
course book: English Grammar in Use (see below). If you pass the final
test at the end of the semester, you will be awarded a
Teilnahmenachweis. This is one of two Teilnahmescheine required for the
"Leistungsnachweis Sprachpraxis".
Participants:
IFA-students of any semester who passed the A-level course or are
placed in the B-course after the placement test; strictly limited to 30
participants.

Course Description:
This
course is specifically designed for IFA students. We will look at
some linguistic disciplines from an applied perspective. The main focus
will be on phonetics and phonology, especially how to read and write
words and phrases in the phonetic alphabet. Further topics discussed
will include practical issues of morphology, lexicology, prototype
theory, syntax, and speech act theory. Instead of using one particular
coursebook, we will draw upon a variety of materials.
Participants
IFA-students
of any semester, but you are advised not to take this course in your
first semester; strictly limited to 35 participants.
